Do you ever feel tempted to crawl back into bed and pull the covers over your head? Some days you just don’t feel like facing what is ahead of you. However, I want to share with you four ways that you can instantly improve your mood so that your day doesn’t have to start off on the wrong foot.
- Make someone else’s day great
Usually, when we are feeling down, the first thing we want is someone to make us feel better. However, you’d be surprised how taking the focus off of ourselves and putting it onto others makes a difference! We are wired to love other people.
A few ideas:
-Make your spouse breakfast in bed
-Call a friend and compliment them
-Play a game with your kids
- Move your body
Hello, endorphins! This mood boosting hormone will get you feeling renewed and refreshed! Ideally, do it right away in the morning to clear your mind for the day.
Here is a workout you can do that is not too intense, but vigorous enough to get those endorphins flowing:
25 Crunches
20 Sumo Squats
15 Jumping Jacks
10 Burpees
5 Pushups
Repeat this set 2-3 times
- Start your day with a hearty breakfast
Fill your body with healthy foods that will give you a boost of natural sugars, while keeping you full and satisfied.
Try this recipe:
1 ½ cups of vanilla greek yogurt
¼ cup blueberries
¼ cup strawberries
¼ cup bananas
¼ cup quick oats
Dash of ground flax
Hand full of walnuts or pecans
¼ cup chopped 70% dark chocolate
Yes! I said chocolate for breakfast! 😁 That’s because it has a small dose of caffeine which will wake you up, plus dark chocolate is shown to improve your mood! I mean, who doesn’t want to start their day with delicious chocolate?!
- Gratitude practice
Start your day by focusing on the positive. Write down 3-5 things you are thankful for that morning. It can be as simple as being thankful for the ability to write. There is ALWAYS something to be thankful for! If you want to make this practice even more effective, end your day this way as well, no matter how it played out. You might even find it causes you to wake up feeling great in the first place, because the last thing on your mind is something that is good, instead of negative.
So tell me, which one will you try the next time you are feeling down?
Remember that we can choose how we feel! You don’t have to let your feelings dictate your day!
Good luck, friend!
- Jess 🙂
