Where Are We Going

Have you noticed we all strive for something?

Maybe you are striving for a job promotion, or paying off debt, or fulfilling a lifelong dream. Maybe you want to find a spouse and start a family. Perhaps you want to be famous or known for your talent.

In life, we are wired to have purpose. We are not happy to sit in one place forever. We make “goals” and “to-do lists”. Growing, changing, evolving.

Do you ever wonder what the end goal is?

Once you get the job promotion, what happens when you retire and you no longer have that job? Once you pay off the debt, will that be the last investment you will ever make? When that dream is fulfilled, will you be satisfied to stay there forever, or will you want more?

The way I see it, we will never fully arrive at satisfaction, and I think there is a reason for that.

“But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ…” Philippians 3:20

We are meant to crave more and desire more, which leads us to strive for that something more, but I wonder if that “more” is wired for heavenly purposes instead of here on Earth. My take on it is that whatever we are trying to achieve in life- whether it be a career, economic status, or love- their basis is to shape us and prepare us for the ultimate “more”- which is heaven. We have an eagerness to reach the finish line and have victory, and I believe God put this nature in us to direct us to HIM. He is the finish line!

Nurture whatever your mission may be here on Earth, and look forward with joy that despite how that mission turns out, you have a beautiful destination before you! Your reward is so great, that Jesus died on the cross so you could have it!

Stay strong, friend!
